A Magnificent Company Retreat

It was that time of the year again! The company had planned a retreat for all employees to engage and interact with one another.

At PointStar, the management sees the employees as valuable assets and strongly believes that company culture is one of the most important aspects of an organisation. One of the great ways to build unity is through company outings. Not only will this foster the collaboration among the team (just like how G Suite does for your business ^.^), it also strengthen the team as we function better and become more productive working as individual and as a team in the company.

Wednesday, 30 November 2016 – Work was as usual in the morning and we departed only at 4pm.

We arrived at Harbourfront Cruise Center and checked in around 6pm. The first thing was to drop our luggages and off we went to explore the beautiful cruise ship.

Shortly after the cruise departure, the team was told to assemble at the Mariner Restaurant. Everyone was getting ready for the great feast! There was international buffet including spicy indian cuisine which was perfect for our Indian colleagues, and most of us love spicy food anyway (who doesn’t, right?). We were having a fabulous time, chatting and laughing as we sat down and enjoyed our food.

An enjoyable dinner filled with laughter

After a sumptuous meal, we watched a magic show performance and almost every cruise will have the all famous bingo game. A few of us played bingo but no one had got a full house so there was no winner for the game.

We decided to hit the KTV next and there was a singing competition where all of us were encouraged to sign up for the challenge! Along with a few other contestants, 3 from PointStar participated. The stage presentation was hilarious but nonetheless it was a spectacular performance throughout.

It was getting late but for us, the night has just started. Everyone in the KTV lounge has left so we were the only group remained. We were still enjoying ourselves, singing our hearts out, drinking wines but soon we have conquered the dance floor too. Everyone was at their peak and it was interesting to see all of us performing different dance styles (disco dancing, hip-hop, bollywood dance, you name it – we’ve got it).

After a crazy 2 hours cardio dance exercise, we decided to head to the restaurant for supper to re-energise ourselves. However, some of us were not used to late nights so they have decided to go to bed after the supper while a few of them, we called them the night owls wanted to try their luck at the casino. Despite being on board for only a few hours, most of us felt like we had done a whole day of activities and our muscles were aching. Nevertheless, all were exhausted and slept like a log that night.

Thursday, 1st December 2016 – Everyone was up early and feeling refreshed after a good night’s sleep. The ship has arrived Klang Port, Malaysia, in the afternoon and we would be disembarking from ship to board a bus to Bukit Bintang. It was a “free and easy” so we explored Bukit Bintang at our own leisure.

It was raining cats and dogs when we returned to Klang Port. While we were all waiting to board the cruise ship, the shelter wasn’t huge enough to shield us from the rain. Everyone was soaked, wet and shivering. However, we were a bunch of bravest warriors, because nothing, not even the storm could stopped us from taking a we-fie! ^.^

We had another wonderful night from dusk ‘til dawn. It was the final night on the ship so we threw an epic cruise party. Everyone let down their hair and partied all night, enjoying themselves to the fullest and only went to bed in the wee hours.

Friday, 2nd December 2016 – Prior to leaving the cruise ship, a group picture was taken with our hoodies printed with PointStar logo, followed by the Mannequin Challenge, a viral video craze that has gained popularity featuring people freezing for the camera with some music playing in the background.

A wonderful retreat that left the team invigorated

The week before the cruise trip, our Indonesia team had their lovely retreat in Bali. The team had organised a birthday celebration for a few ladies who happened to have their birthdays in the month of November. There was also long service award given to employees as an appreciation and recognising their contribution over a period of years.

While in Bali, the team had lots of exciting games, watersports and sightseeing, from cultural to action-packed.

At the end of the trip, the team did the Mannequin Challenge wearing the traditional sarong. In fact, the Indonesia team was the first to perform the Mannequin Challenge and of course the Singapore and Malaysia team “toss our hats into the ring”.
